Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1 Arrive → McLeod Ganj circuit
- Pickup, check-in and breakfast; Dalai Lama Temple, Bhagsu trail, Dharamkot lunch; Naddi for sunset.
Day 2 Kangra heritage day
- Kangra Fort in the morning, Norbulingka Institute after lunch, tea-garden stop on the way home.
Day 3 Bir-Billing day (or Palampur tea day)
- 08:30 — Drive east past Palampur; chai stop at the 13th-century Baijnath Shiva temple.
- 11:00 — Bir: optional tandem paragliding from the Billing ridge (add-on from ₹3,500, weather permitting — mornings fly best).
- 13:30 — Lunch in the landing-zone cafes; walk the Bir monastery lanes and the Deer Park grounds.
- Alternative — Palampur instead: walkable tea estates, the Neugal Khad viewpoint, and Andretta's pottery studios.
- 17:30 — Back to Dharamshala by evening.
Day 4 Slow morning → depart
- Gyuto Monastery, St. John in the Wilderness, or a last Dharamkot breakfast; check-out and drop-off.
What to pack
- Layers — you'll move between 700 m and 2,400 m in a day
- Walking shoes for fort, forest and tea-garden paths
- If flying: closed shoes are mandatory, and mornings are cold at take-off
- Cash for entries, chai stops and the Bir cafes
Safety & good to know
- Tandem flights only with licensed Bir pilots we work with year-round; flying is always weather-dependent and we never push a marginal window
- Private cab with verified driver throughout; mountain-road legs are daylight-only
- The Baijnath–Bir road is good; the last climb to Billing take-off is steep hairpins — that's normal
Four days that cover what three can't: the full McLeod Ganj and Kangra heritage circuit, plus a whole day for the thing you came to Himachal hoping to do — a tandem flight over Bir-Billing, or the Palampur tea valley with Andretta's potters. Three nights' stay, one cab, one driver who learns what you like by day two.
The 4-day package is the 3-day itinerary with breathing room and one big extra day — and that day is the best decision you'll make here. Choose Bir: the drive past Baijnath's 13th-century Shiva temple to the paragliding landing zone, with an optional tandem flight from Billing (world-cup take-off, add-on) and monastery lanes to walk while the gliders land around you. Or choose Palampur: tea gardens you can actually walk into, the Neugal Khad viewpoint under the Dhauladhar wall, and Andretta's potters' village an easy add. The rest stays as it should be — McLeod Ganj done properly on day one, the Kangra Fort and Norbulingka heritage circuit on day two, three nights' stay with breakfast, and a private cab with the same driver throughout, so by day three the route is being adjusted around what you've enjoyed most. Ex-Dharamshala pricing; we put the budget into the days, not a bus seat.
