01 Overview

The trip

A serious Dhauladhar crossing at 4,342 m. Indrahar is the historical pilgrim route used by Gaddi pastoralists moving sheep between Kangra and the Ravi valley in Chamba. The trek combines the familiar Triund approach with the harder push past Lahesh Cave to the pass itself, where a moraine-lined ridge opens to views of the Pir Panjal, Manimahesh Kailash, and the Chamba hills.

The Indrahar Pass Trek is a stronger mountain journey built for trekkers who want a proper high-altitude challenge from the Dharamshala side. The route usually starts from McLeod Ganj and passes through Triund, Laka Got, and the upper Dhauladhar landscape before reaching the pass. The terrain changes quickly from forest trail to rocky slopes, open ridges, and exposed mountain sections, so the trek feels much more serious than a short weekend walk. The reward is the scale of the views: deep valleys, rugged Himalayan walls, and a clear sense of crossing into a more remote mountain zone. Good fitness, warm layers, and a patient pace matter here more than speed. This is the kind of trek that feels memorable because of both the climb and the setting.

Questions

What is the fitness benchmark?+

5 km run in under 30 minutes, or 10 km walk with a day-pack with no aches. If you haven't trekked above 3,500 m before, we recommend a warm-up trek first.

Is Lahesh Cave really a cave?+

It's a massive overhanging rock slab used as shelter for centuries by Gaddi shepherds. We pitch bivouac tents under the overhang — dry, wind-sheltered, but cold.

What happens if weather closes the pass?+

We turn back — no exceptions. A retry is attempted on Day 4 if the window opens; otherwise partial refund of the summit-day cost applies.

Do I need to sign a liability waiver?+

Yes. High-altitude treks require standard IMF-format liability and medical disclosure. We share the form on booking.
