It is an easy-to-moderate route that rewards walkers with big-valley views and a crowd-free camp.
Thatharana is an offbeat meadow trek on the Khaniyara side of Dharamshala, far quieter than the busy Triund route. The trail starts near Khaniyara and climbs through lush green Kangra Valley fields and forest, passing Kharota village before reaching the open Thatharana meadow at around 2,900 m. The camp looks north into the Dhauladhar wall and south across the plains of Punjab, and a side walk on the middle day reaches the Jugani (Hoddi) Koth, a Gaddi shepherd shrine on the high pasture. Thatharana is also the base camp for trekkers continuing to Kundli Pass. With an easy-to-moderate grade and almost no crowds, it suits travelers who want a genuine forest-and-meadow trek with big valley views rather than a popular summit hike.
