4.3 stars · around 1,700 Google reviews · 9 am–8.30 pm, closed Tuesdays · Paragliding Landing Road, Mohal Suja · about ₹200–400 for one. Ratings and hours checked August 2026. Tripadvisor rates it higher, 4.6 from 85 reviews.
The name is not a date of significance to anyone but the two people who run it. June the sixteenth is the day one of them proposed to the other. Guests find this out from the staff, mention it in their reviews, and it explains the whole feel of the place — a small, personal, slightly scruffy café on the paragliding landing road that people become weirdly loyal to over the course of a week.
With around 1,700 reviews it is one of the two or three most-visited cafés in Bir. It is also the most reliably good brunch in the village, which is a different claim and the more useful one.
What to actually order
Pancakes, more than anything else on the menu, and the Nutella version if you are choosing for someone else. Then the dessert counter, which is where June 16 quietly outclasses its competition — tiramisu, carrot cake, brownies, an orange pound cake, a blueberry cheesecake. It rotates. Look before you order.
On the savoury side the shakshuka is the signature and the falafel is genuinely good. The aglio olio gets called a ten out of ten by people who eat a lot of pasta, which is a surprise in a Himalayan village. There is a mushroom and cheese sandwich that at least one reviewer rated the best they had had in years, chilli cheese toast that turns up constantly, and — oddly — one of the best things on the menu is the Mumbai-style pav bhaji.
The honest caveat: not every dish lands. Reviewers who order widely report the pasta is hit and miss beyond the aglio olio, the coffee is inconsistent enough that several people name a flat cortado or a mediocre americano specifically, and the kitchen visibly strains at peak brunch. The 4.3 rather than a 4.7 reflects that.
Vegan, vegetarian, and what that actually means here
Worth being precise, because the internet is not. June 16 is a vegetarian kitchen with egg options — there is eggs Kejriwal and a masala omelette on the menu — rather than a vegan one. Within that, it does the most serious vegan cooking in Bir, and the vegan shakshuka is a genuine destination dish that plant-based travellers go out of their way to name.
There are gluten-free options and Jain food on request. The one recurring complaint from vegan diners is that oat milk is the only plant milk carried — no soy — which is a small thing, and exactly the kind of small thing that decides where someone eats for a fortnight.
Timing
Open 9 am to 8.30 pm, closed Tuesdays. Between about nine and noon it fills, and that is when the service complaints happen. If you want a table and a calm kitchen, go before half nine or after two. The room is small and cosy and best on a wet day — several reviewers describe arriving in the monsoon and not leaving for three hours.
If it's closed, or full
Tuesday is the day this catches people, and Silver Linings is the answer — the other bakery-led brunch in Bir, five minutes away, open every day but Wednesday. Between them the two cover the whole week. If it is vegan cooking specifically you need and both are shut, Bhoomi Cafe in Chaugan runs a vegetarian kitchen with a real vegan and gluten-free counter, and Cho Cho's does pure-vegetarian home food with Jain options on request.
