Parvati House is a family operation in the fullest sense. Gaurav Sharma hosts, his mother — universally "Aunty" in the reviews — cooks, and the wider Sharma family turns up throughout the feedback organising treks and generally adopting guests. One reviewer stayed three months for work and spends the review describing the family rather than the room.
Gaurav is worth knowing about before you arrive. He is a software engineer and a professional trekker, and he also runs Magic View Café at the midpoint of the Triund trail. If you are here to walk, you have landed in the right house — this is genuine local trekking knowledge rather than a front desk phoning a guide.
The rooms
The draws are the garden and the big front porch that overlooks it, plus attached kitchen access in the rooms and broadband that reviewers specifically called good enough to work on. Rooms are clean and spacious, and the listings split them into mountain-view and valley-view units, so ask which one you are getting.
The porch is the real asset. It is the sort of space where people end up doing yoga in the morning and nothing at all in the afternoon, and it is why guests describe the property in terms of the time they spent there rather than the room they slept in.
Where it is
Dharamkot, near Shalom Backpackers, with McLeod Ganj about two kilometres away. You get valley views and a short walk down to the cafés. It is also one of the better-positioned stays for hiking — you are close to the start of the Triund trail and the family will arrange guides.
That trailhead proximity is worth more than it appears on a map. Triund is a nine-kilometre walk that most people start far too late in the morning, having first travelled up from McLeod Ganj. Starting from a bed in Dharamkot buys you the two hours that separate a pleasant walk from a hot, crowded one — and if you are going up to sleep at the top, it means you can leave after lunch.
Honest drawbacks, stated plainly
Most of the Google reviews here are around four years old. The rating is real and the volume is high, but the feedback is not recent, so the property may not be the same one those guests stayed in. Message before booking and ask for current photos. That is not a criticism of the house; it is just what the evidence supports.
It is also now listed as an OYO home on some platforms, alongside its own direct listings. That usually means the booking experience, and sometimes the standards, differ from what the older family-run reviews describe. If the family hosting is why you are booking, book direct.
Several guests mention it is hard to find the first time. Ask for a location pin before you set off, especially if you are arriving after dark.
Best for
Families, longer stays, and trekkers who want a base near the Triund start with home-cooked food available and someone in the house who has actually walked the route.
