Soma House is one of the newest properties in the Dharamkot–Bhagsu belt, and the reviews read exactly like a new property that is being run well: helpful staff, a peaceful atmosphere, clean rooms. The words that recur are "new" and "spotlessly clean", along with a surprising number of guests describing the beds as the most comfortable they slept in on the whole trip.
That last detail matters more than it sounds. A great many rooms in this village were built fast, furnished cheaply and have been absorbing monsoons for a decade. Somewhere genuinely new, with a mattress nobody has slept a thousand nights on, is a real product difference here.
The rooms
Spacious, good natural light, hot water, and balconies on some units. Listings show rooms facing the garden, the mountains and an inner courtyard, so it is worth saying what you want when you message rather than taking whatever is free.
Beyond the standard rooms, the property also lists a nature room with its own kitchen and patio, and a first-floor room opening onto a private balcony with pine and mountain views. If you are staying more than a few days, ask about those two specifically — the difference between a room and a room with a kitchen is the difference between visiting and living.
It is stated as LGBTQ+ friendly on the listing rather than left to be inferred, which is worth noting in a region where that is rarely made explicit either way.
Who runs it
The person who makes it work is Pratiksha, the caretaker, who is named directly in more reviews than the building itself is described in. Sanju also comes up. Between them they handle early check-ins, arrange cabs down to the taxi stand, and generally do the things that turn a room into a stay.
Several guests report being moved up to a deluxe room at no extra cost. It happens often enough in the reviews to look like house policy rather than luck, though obviously nobody should book expecting it.
Where it is
You are above the Upper Bhagsu ground, on the shoulder between Dharamkot's café strip and Bhagsu village. Cafés are a few minutes away and Bhagsu is under half an hour on foot, including the waterfall. Kangra airport is about 19 km, and the property will arrange an airport pickup on request.
Being slightly off the main drag is the entire reason it is quiet. Dharamkot's centre in season is not a peaceful place, and 400 metres of separation does more for your sleep than any amount of double glazing.
Honest drawbacks
More than one guest calls the walk up "a bit of a trek". There is no vehicle drop at the door. If you are arriving with a large suitcase rather than a backpack, message ahead and arrange help — this is the single most common regret in the reviews and it is entirely avoidable with one WhatsApp message.
It is also new enough that there is not yet a long track record across seasons. The reviews are strong but they are not deep in time, so if you are booking for January, ask directly about heating rather than assuming.
Best for
Couples and solo travellers who want a clean, modern, low-drama base rather than a social hostel. It is also a sensible first Dharamkot stay: close enough to both villages to work out which one you actually like before committing to a month somewhere.
If it's booked out
For the same combination of clean, quiet and recently built, Kishore Singh Homestay on Dharamkot Studio Road is the closest match and adds a kitchen. Snow White Guest House is the option if you would rather trade the quiet for being in the dead centre of the village.
If the walk up is the part that puts you off, OmiHomeStay in Bhagsu Nag sits lower, costs less and is easier to reach with luggage.
