Safety & good to know

A classic Dhauladhar ridge walk built around the old shepherd route above McLeod Ganj. The trail climbs through mixed oak and rhododendron forest before opening onto the Triund ridge — a grazing meadow once used by Gaddi shepherds moving flocks toward Laka Got in summer. The ridge gives uninterrupted views of the Pir Panjal to the north and the Kangra Valley floor to the south.

The Triund Trek is one of the most popular short treks near Dharamshala, known for its steady forest climb, open ridge views, and easy weekend format. The trail begins around McLeod Ganj or Dharamkot and moves through oak, rhododendron, and deodar forest before opening up to wide mountain scenery. At the top, Triund gives clear views of the Dhauladhar range on one side and the Kangra Valley on the other. It is a good choice for first-time trekkers, small groups, and travelers who want a real Himalayan feel without a long expedition. The route is straightforward, but the final ascent is steep enough to keep the trek rewarding. Sunset, stargazing, and the overnight camp atmosphere are the main highlights of the experience.

Frequently asked questions

Is this suitable for a complete beginner?
Yes. If you can do 4-5 hours of steady uphill walking with rests, Triund is a realistic first Himalayan trek. No technical skills needed.
What about the ban on overnight camping on the ridge?
A 2019 forest department order restricted ridge camping on peak weekends. Our camp is pitched at the authorised site just below the ridge crest with a valid permit.
Is there a toilet at Triund?
Dry-pit toilets at the cafes on the ridge. Our camp includes a private toilet tent with biodegradable bags — no waste left on the ridge.
Can I book with only one day free?
Triund can be done as a long day-hike (8-9 hrs round trip) but we only offer the overnight format because the sunrise is the reason to come.
Can I go higher than Triund?
Yes — our Snowline trek pushes another 1-1.5 hrs above the ridge to Laka Got (≈3,100 m), the seasonal snow line below the Indrahar wall. Same approach, higher and quieter. Ask us to upgrade your booking.
